Ireland - Day 13
September 2, 2025: Today was another transition day. For the rest of Ireland, we are moving every 3 days. We spend the morning packing and enjoying some time at the hotel. The buffet breakfast has been great every morning. I should have taken a picture of the spread, but I completely forgot! I went for the fresh baked scones every morning! I love me some scones with jam or lemon curd and either butter or clotted cream. Yum! Every morning we had a beautiful view of the lake. Our check out time was Noon, but our train wasn’t until 1:45pm, so we hung around in the bistro until it was time to grab our taxi.
We only had one train change today. We went form Killarney to Mallow and then from Mallow to Cork. It was check-in time when we got here so we headed straight for our Airbnb. It is super cute. I will post some pictures later under Photos and Videos. Another great location. We are within walking distance of the train and the bus station as well as the city centre with restaurants, shops and pubs. We will do some more exploring the next couples of days.
Tonight, we went to Elbow Lane Brew & Smoke House. It was another spot I head read about during our research. We definitely recommend it!! We shared a rack of baby back ribs and they fell off the bone. The sauce they used was similar to Kansas City ribs in Jimm’s opinion, more sweet than savory and not too spicy. Which was great for me. They make their own beer, so Jimm tried one of their IPAs, which he enjoyed. Our waitress was from Spain, but lived in Portugal for 3 months so quizzed her about our upcoming trip there.
Next up was a stop at Tesco for a few groceries. On the way we ran into a Murphy’s Ice Cream, so of course we had to have one! Then we headed back to our flat. I caught a cold somewhere in our travels, which is to be expected sometimes, so I am resting up tonight for our crazy schedule the next few days. Lots to see here in Cork, nearby Cobh and Midleton.
